Another Bird in the Pool

September 21, 2010

Well, I figured I’d better dump the buckets and pools this morning and fill them with some fresh, cold well water. It’s supposed to get up to 97 degrees (F.) today, boo, hiss! Where is FALL and the cooler weather???

And there again was a little bird in one of the pools.

At least it sense enough to stand in the shallow end.  I try to put the wading pools on a slope so there is a deep end for the animals to drink from, but it is also easier for me to pick up the “shallow” end to dump the pool.

I guess the shallow end is now also the rescue center for birds to stand there until the lifeguard (me) comes and takes them out of the water.

"I'm getting tired of sitting here."

As soon as I got this one out, it fluttered over to the nearby trumpet vine and found refuge.

The little birds like to flit around inside that mass of vines.  I suppose because there are lots of good perches that are sheltered from the sun and the view of predators like hawks.

A great hidey-hole for little birds.

Of course, they can also perch out in the sunshine on the guide wires when they want to.

Soakin' up the sunshine.

Oh, and just so you know… I also refilled the birdbath with nice cold water… yeah, the one that is just a few feet away from the wading pool that silly little bird was sitting in.

Go figure.
