I hear the raucous calls at night, and the rattle of maracas during the days. What's going on?
It's breeding season for the peafowl! Yes, the cool dude is strutting his stuff and showing off for the ladies. He didn't wait for Valentine's Day, but decided last Friday was a good day to start looking for love.
Besides the occasional blood-curdling screech, he also prances and dances and rattles his tailfeathers in his romantic efforts.
In a manner reminiscent of women wondering what's under a kilt, the peahens are getting a peek at what that dude is hiding behind all those fancy feathers!
So just what IS back there?
Well, there's those tail feathers that he rattles while he dances, the upright ones right behind the pretty feathers.
He also has some pretty fluffy feathers back there too.
All in all, he's just a handsome dude no matter which angle you're viewing. Now if he can just convince the ladies of that.
And that's the way it is in my part of the world!

If only they weren’t so noisy and destructive……..otherwise,they are magnificent.
Good luck Mr. Peacock!
When I was a child, a neighbour had peafowl. Their calls used to give me nightmares; I thought it was angry ghosts!
I had to laugh remembering that when I read your post—enjoyed it much, and the photos are beautiful.
They are beautiful! I have a friend who bought property and thus inherited the feral peacock crowd that ran the place. At the highest number, she had 12 peacocks along with their mates. It was sooooooo loud at her place during breeding season. Peafowl poo everywhere, too.
Your photos seem to always be my background. It was the purple sunset, but now it just has to be the peacock
We had them when I was kids. I think I was too young to remember all the bad stuff. One was, I guess albino, because he was all white.
Then our neighbors’ dog killed them all. Took a lot of the fun out of it…
Anyways, yay for a new background!
Yes they can be very noisy. I can see how a child would think they sounded like an angry ghost!
12 peacocks would sure be a LOT. We have 5 right now, but I plan on selling 3 of the young ones.
Very funny post. They are beautiful with their feathers opened. The sound of their voice is something else.
I hear they make fantastic “watchdogs” too. Set off quite a fuss.
Hope your guy finds a lover soon so you can get some sleep!
i would say he is quite a looker and no doubt will have several hens wanting to be his come valentine’s day
thanks for sharing all his beautiful feathers with us…interesting post.
have a good day.

I used to live within hearing distance of some Peacocks and I know just what you mean about their call. They are beautiful though.
What a lovely peacock! You did a great job capturing him at every angle!

lovely peacock. we have a decor at home that comes from those colorful feathers.
Let me share to you My World thru Cagayan De Oro’s Night Cafe.
I’m definitely NOT showing your pics to my peacock….I think he has 4 nice feathers, not that it slows him down from showing those four off!! I’m picking up some young peahens/cocks next month, hopefully my neighbors don’t hate me! I sure like them though…….
