Ellie got through her surgery with flying colors. Here she is once she got into her room:
Don't let that sleepy little face fool you. She dozed off and on for a little while, but then she didn't want to go to sleep. The little rascal fights going to sleep, even when she needs it!
I suspect the next day or two will be a bit of a trial for her Mom and Dad, while they try to keep her occupied. She had to lay flat for the first 24 hours after surgery, and she was upset about that. She wants to play with her IV line... she's the typical little kid!
But the main thing is the surgery is over, it went well, and now the process starts of healing, then therapy to re-train her muscles and help her walk.
And that's what it's all about... Helping Ellie Walk!

I’m so glad to hear she did well in surgery.
Maybe they could set up a TV on the ceiling??
Such good news!
I joined Ellie’s facebook page yesterday and was looking through some of her photos…the precious little thing is so incredibly brave and always seems to have that amazing smile on her face. And that sweet smile, literally, makes my heart hurt. What is the prognosis following such a surgery? I know it is supposed to end the “scissor” walk, but will this allow her to walk normally and, maybe, even run?
Hang in there, sweet Ellie!!
Oh my! Looks like I must go back and re-read some of your previous posts. I’ve been to taken over by my own problems and I’m sorry for not stopping by sooner.
I’m relieved to see precious little Ellie came through her surgery so well and is feeling good. Children bounce back so much quicker than adults do, thank goodness.
I’ll be keeping your cowgirl princess in my prayers every day, my friend.

Ceecee.. actually they have a little tv on an arm that swings over the bed. So she could at least watch tv.
Dani, the neurosurgeon and others on the medical team all said this surgery should be “lifechanging.” Exactly how well she will be able to walk, we won’t know for a long time. Different muscles will be at work now, but the doctor thinks she will be back to the pre-surgery stage after 5-6 weeks. Then we see how much the therapy helps her to progress onward. Hopefully to walk with out a walker or even canes, and yes, to run would be a great blessing!
Thanks Lisa for keeping our little sweetie in your prayers. She needs them! It’s going to be a hard road. YOU know how tough physical therapy can be after surgery. She will be doing 4 hours a day, 5 days a week.
