Hidden Assets

in Farm Critters

Do you know the answer to this riddle? It describes our hidden assets.

In marble walls as white as milk,
Lined with a skin as soft as silk,
Within a fountain crystal clear,
A golden apple doth appear.
No doors there are to this stronghold,
Yet thieves break in and steal the gold.

We like to hide our assets around here where they're not easily found. For instance, see this nice enclosure?

Enclosure around trumpet vine and lilac bush.

The Farmer put this pallet fence up to protect the trumpet vine and lilac bush inside from goatly depredations.  They seem to have a special fondness for lilac leaves and bark.

But there are other things in there as well.... something is hiding.

Hiding in the weeds.

Do you see them? Try looking in the weeds from this angle:

Hiding in the greenery.

It's easier to see them in that picture.  I can see one head peeping out.

One of our hiding nesters got aggravated with me being so close to them, and moved away for a while.

Guinia in weed patch.

The weeds and pallet fence hide these guineas quite nicely.  They are also protected from predators since there are two dogs patrolling around outside the fence.  I guess they've got it figured that this is a great place for hidden assets.

Guinea Eggs

Two guineas can lay a lot of eggs, and of course eggs are our hidden assets and the answer to the riddle.

Thanks Amy. They do seem to look for good hiding places for their nests, at least most of the time! They’ve also been known to nest in weeds at the side of the road however, so not always.
