The Weather Outside Is Frightful. . .

in Signs of Winter,Wildlife in the Country

Okay, so it's pretty much cold all over the states.  (That it's cold in Canada goes without saying!)  We even have a little snow!  It started snowing yesterday.  It's been below freezing for a while, so it was time to carry water to the heated buckets.

Water spurting out of faucet into bucket.

The water kind of spurts sideways since there is an adapter for two hoses on the faucet, but that's okay.  It just means I have to know where to place the bucket (that's what the board is for).   It took seven buckets to top off all the watering spots yesterday.  Fortunately, I don't have to do this every day.

The animals started to look a little snowy.

Llama and Shetland ewe sheep in snowy weather.
And the bird feeders were all seeing a booming business.

It seems everyone was looking for something to eat!

The birds you have visiting your birdfeeder are beautiful! They must be thankful.

Just plain, “Bbbbrrrrr”!
I know that my wild animal friends are always waiting for their morning snacks and fresh water to melt the ice from the water I have out for them.

The cardinal on the rose bush–ouch!

I enjoy seeing all the different birds. Our dining table is right in front of the picture window so I can sit and eat and enjoy watching them.

And I see those cardinals sitting on the rose canes a lot… I guess they’ve figured out how to “miss” the thorns! =:-O

Awesome bird photos! I love to sit and watch the birds at my feeder, too. I love that you can identify and keep track of which birds are visiting your feeders, too. Isn’t it fun to compare and see from year to year which species are common and which are just visiting?

Thanks Lisa!

It certainly IS interesting seeing which species visit, and at what time of year. We seem to have a lot of cardinals in the winter time, and far too many of those little sparrows.
