Wet, then cold!

in Life on the Farm

Earlier in the week we got lots of rain, so when I went out to do morning chores, the road below us looked like this:

It was fairly warm, but the rain didn't seem to want to let up.  Sort of a southern monsoon season.

Then yesterday morning I went out to do chores with just a light hoodie-type jacket on.  Still warm enought that it felt fine and dandy.

In facct, while I was out, I noticed that the little frogs were peeping for the first time down in the bog area.  And I also saw there was a daffodil blooming in a flower bed in the front yard.  Further, the quince bush also had blooms!

Well, I'll bet those little frogs are buried deep down in the mud again today!

Yep, the warm weather did not last, and by the time I was ready to do evening chores yesterday, the temperature had dropped drastically!  We'd had snow flurries, ice and sleet, and about any weather in-between.  The doorknob to the feed room was frozen shut, and some eggs I'd left in there were also semi-frozen.

Today there is still the one blooming daffodil....

It looks a little wilted, but it's still hanging in there.  Same with the blooms on the quince bush.

But there is one creature around here that doesn't seem to care if it's warm or cold, as long as he can run around and play!

It's good to know whatever the weather, there's going to be one happy critter around here!

It has been so warm here that one of my turkeys started laying two weeks ago. Rhubarb was growing in December. Winter got here two days ago but it’s too late for many winter-based businesses. We have 4″ of snow/sleet/ice/yuk this morning. I’m ready for spring.

Yes, my sis was complaining of the same thing in West Virginia. No snow for the ski resorts. then when it’s really too late for much business, winter arrives!

Hope you have thawed out some!
